DIY Ruffles

This pillow is adorable and looks super easy to put together! Hello weekend project….once my sewing machine is fixed and I don’t have everything in my MA program crashing down on me. :)

I ran across this, though I’m not sure where it’s from exactly…but I love the color tones!

I just moved into my new apartment and the bed that was given to me doesn’t have a headboard. I’ve been considering what to do with the wall space and was thinking of buying a wood panel, some foam and fabric and making a large fabric headboard. However! These fabric squares are an adorable alternative that might end up being cheaper b/c I won’t need the foam padding!
Weekend Project
As soon as I got back from NYC I got to work on refurbishing the kitchen chairs I’d picked up from a neighbor just before I left.
Before:

And the cushions:

And the After:

And it cost me a grand total of 7 bucks to do. Fantastic way to spend a day!

Wouldn’t it be great to take scrap fabric and make these streamers!? I love it.
Favorite Fabrics!
Before I moved to NYC for the summer I found and bought a 1930’s wooden kitchen table at a flea market just outside Detroit. After figuring out how to get the table to fit into my tiny compact car and to my house, I stripped about 5 layers of paint off, sanded, and repainted it with a fresh coat of white. The table didn’t come with any chairs and my goal once I get back to MI is to go out to some flea markets and garage sales and pick some up. Which has got me thinking FABRIC and FURNITURE REDO’s! Time to find some chairs and fix them up!
Fabrics I’m loving for the project:
This is from Sandi Henderson’s “Ginger Blossom” collection. I wouldn’t use this for my kitchen chair cushion re-do, but would LOVE to see it on a larger chair project! It’s so cute and the color tones and pattern size are perfect.
This print is from Michael Miller and could be perfect for a small cushion.
Also by Michael is his ”Pillow & Maxfield” collection. I love this, but unfortunately it’s sold out as of right now. And for good reason! Isn’t it beautiful?
Circles and Florals. My two favorite things.
and one more for fun:
the last two are also Michael Miller fabrics.

Sophisticated Retro -
You recognize and respect good design both from the past and the present. You pick up key pieces over time and enjoy making them work together. You arae aware of but do not necessarily follow trends.
As soon as I move back to Michigan I’m heading to the craft store and making some of these beautiful magnets!
Found @ romanticPINK’s Etsy shop!
Welcome to “The Make Lounge” in London. It is an amazingly adorable shop that is half workshop, half craft supply shop. They offer craft workshops that last anywhere from 1 hour to all afternoon featuring contemporary DIY ideas and cheap pricing. It’s a great alternative considering most shops (such as Joann Fabrics) only offer workshops that are month-long sessions and cost anywhere from 80 to upwards of 100 dollars. While patrons of The Make Lounge work on their DIY they also get to munch on cute snacks like cupcakes and drink hot tea. And if crafting in a shop isn’t your style, the other half of the store is nothing but supplies and fabric. You can buy what you want and go home and be happy.
So, I know I’m currently in grad school attempting to get my Masters in Student Affairs and all…but I would love (LOVE) to open a place like this up. Wouldn’t it be amazing? Having an entire shop devoted to craft making? Sewing machines! Fabrics! Paper Crafts! Knitting! SO MUCH DIY! It would be fantastic. You have no idea how happy my life would be if I owned a shop like this. It would need to have a super clever yet adorable name. Ohmygosh. It needs to happen.

These photos are all from LightLocations portfolio. If you haven’t heard of this company, it’s fantastic! They own a bunch of different properties all over the world, decorate them and people rent them out for movie shoots, photo shoots and anything you can think of really. I LOVE the patchwork wall and I’m totally doing that once I live in an apartment/home that isn’t owned by a university. Isn’t it sassy? I love it. And the colors in general.
